Experience the future live – The Viva Tech in Paris

One of Europe’s biggest tech events took place in Paris from 24 to 26 May. Nearly 80,000 entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts gathered at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles to experience the future at Viva Tech. Everything was offered, from courses in design thinking, artificial intelligence software, almost human-like robots, to blockchain applications. There were workshops, investor rounds, pitches and many speeches by well-known entrepreneurs. The Vivatech was opened by none other than the President of France Emmanuel Macron and the Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

One of the highlight speakers on the first day was certainly Marc Zuckerberg, who spoke not only about the topic of GDPR, but also about his visions of the future. But also, on the many small stages there were highlights, such as Bo Ewald with his quantum computer presentation.

On the second day was the big appearance of Eric Schmidt (former Executive Chairman of Alphabet and Google), who spoke a plea for artificial intelligence and he said that Elon Musk does not get the benefits of AI; well, we will see where the journey will go. The merits are indeed obvious, whether it really is just the choice between paradise and Skynet, or it is somewhere in between, and humanity will have an advantage of artificial intelligence, the future will show us.

Our small delegation from Germany, consisting of Christopher De La Garza, Andreas Guba, Bernhard Stippig and me (see photo, it lacks Bernhard) had obviously fun on VivaTech and there was always something new to discover.

In the evening we were invited to another highlight. A network meeting at NextStage, hosted by the Paris Citizen Entrepreneurs. Here, in a small group of about 40 entrepreneurs from France, China, Spain, Italy and the UK, we were able to exchange ideas about products, projects and innovations across borders.

Thanks to BVMW and #JungerMittelstand, without you the journey would not have been possible. I am looking forward to networking internationally in the near future at the EYEC 9 and Cebit 2018 in Hamburg and Hanover (
